Uganda: MP Zambaali Mourns Kapere, Urges Ugandans to Prioritise Health Check-Ups

What the report says
Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has paid tribute to Ugandan comedian Yokaaba Mbuuse, widely known as Kapere, after news of his death. According to the report published by Nile Post and carried by AllAfrica, Kapere died on 1 November 2026 after reportedly losing his breath while attending a school event involving his children. People close to him said efforts to revive him, including CPR, were unsuccessful.
Zambaali described Kapere as more than an entertainer, saying he had become a national figure whose life reflected patriotism, strong convictions and concern for ordinary Ugandans. He recalled Kapere’s ability to lift spirits during difficult political and social periods, and said his public voice often highlighted issues affecting everyday people, including vulnerable families and children.
The MP also used the moment to urge Ugandans to take preventive healthcare more seriously. He warned that many people live with hidden health conditions until they become serious, and called for routine medical examinations and stronger public awareness campaigns, including heart checks. In broader context, such appeals often follow sudden deaths of public figures and are meant to encourage earlier detection and treatment of illness. Zambaali said Kapere’s death leaves a gap, but that his legacy should be remembered for both comedy and civic commitment.
