Uganda International Fashion Week returns after six years

Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW) is set to return in 2026 after a six-year hiatus, according to Sqoop Uganda, with activities scheduled from August 30 to September 5 at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Multipurpose Hall in Lugogo, Kampala. The event is being staged under the theme “Fashion for Impact” and is framed by organizers as both a style showcase and a platform for business, skills development and youth employment.

The opening segment will be the Fashion and Business Expo, running from August 30 to September 1 with free entry. Sqoop Uganda reports that the expo is expected to attract more than 10,000 young creatives and provide space for selling and displaying products such as clothing, footwear, jewelry, art and crafts. The program will also include exhibitions, mentorship, networking and business-to-business meetings, alongside displays of local fabrics, food and cultural work.

The week will end with runway shows and a grand finale gala on September 5, where 100 selected models are due to appear. Sqoop Uganda says the models were unveiled earlier this year after training under designer Lincoln Axarya. The return of UIFW is also intended to broaden inclusion, with organizers highlighting opportunities for refugees and persons with disabilities.

Arapapa founder Santa Anzo said the initiative aims to turn talent into skills, support dignified work and improve livelihoods, especially for young women and girls. The article also says fashion professionals and brands from countries including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and India are expected to take part, potentially creating wider market and mentorship links for Ugandan designers.
