Uganda: Former Busiro South MP Charles Matovu to Be Buried On Sunday

What the report says
Former Busiro South legislator Charles Matovu is scheduled to be buried on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at his ancestral home in Kungu-Lutale along Nakawuka Road, according to a send-off programme released by Uganda’s National Unity Platform (NUP), as reported by Nile Post and distributed by AllAfrica. The programme lays out a sequence of farewell events in Kampala and at his home ahead of the burial.
According to the published report, a public tribute is planned for Friday afternoon at NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Kampala. This will be followed by a requiem Mass on Saturday at St Bruno Sserunkuuma Catholic Church in Kasenge, then a vigil at his home before Sunday’s burial. The party said the gatherings are intended to honour his contribution to the cause it described as building a better country.
The report says Matovu died on Thursday, October 22, at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala after being transferred from Lubaga Hospital following a sudden health complication. NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya said his condition worsened quickly after the complication began earlier in the week, while party president Robert Kyagulanyi described the death as a shock. Matovu, an electrical engineer, served as Busiro South MP in Uganda’s 11th Parliament from 2021 to 2026. He had also challenged the January 2026 election result in court, and the status of that petition had not been resolved at the time of publication.
