What the report says

Uganda is pitching Thai investors on opportunities in mineral processing, agro-processing, manufacturing, tourism and technology, according to Nile Post. The appeal was made by Finance, Planning and Economic Development Minister Henry Musasizi at the Uganda Investment and Business Opportunities Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, where he outlined sectors the government sees as suitable for joint ventures and export-oriented projects.

Musasizi said Uganda wants more investment that adds value to raw materials rather than exporting them in unprocessed form. He pointed to areas such as coffee processing, fertiliser production, steel, battery-related manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, ICT equipment, fintech, e-commerce and data centres. He also said Uganda’s location, regional trade access and existing infrastructure make it a potential base for companies seeking wider African markets.

The minister described Uganda’s business environment as open to foreign investors, citing incentives such as tax holidays, industrial parks, export processing zones and repatriation of profits. He also said registration can be completed quickly. Among the figures he gave, Musasizi projected possible annual returns of 15% to 25% for some investors, while noting higher returns may be possible in some technology-related sectors. Those figures were presented as targets rather than guarantees.

The broader context is Uganda’s goal of becoming a $500 billion economy by 2040. Nile Post reported that the government is using forums like the Bangkok event to attract foreign capital, encourage industrialisation and create jobs, especially in sectors linked to agriculture, minerals and technology.
