Uganda: Bed Bugs Outbreak Hits Busia's Homes, Residents Seek Help

One resident also raised concern about possible skin irritation or disease linked to repeated bites.

Local officials quoted in the report pointed to sanitation and waste-management problems as possible contributors. Busia District Assistant Health Officer Dick Maena said the area’s bedbug increase was tied to poor personal hygiene and sanitation, while Busia town deputy mayor Juma Odero apologized for garbage-management shortcomings and urged households to improve hygiene. The municipality said it plans community awareness efforts, and residents are asking for door-to-door spraying and broader intervention. The issue matters because it affects daily living conditions and highlights local public-health and sanitation gaps.
