Uganda Baati champions men’s wellbeing at the work place

The Independent Uganda reported that Uganda Baati held a men-focused employee wellness session in Kampala under its Safal Circles initiative. The engagement, titled “Men of Steel: A Life and Wellness Conversation,” brought together male staff from across the company to discuss mental health, career growth, relationships, physical wellbeing and balancing work with personal life.

The keynote conversation was led by Robert Kabushenga, a Ugandan businessman and former media executive, who urged participants to consider wellbeing as part of leadership and personal success. According to the report, he encouraged men to seek support when needed, pay attention to changes in colleagues’ behaviour that could signal distress, and approach such situations with concern rather than judgment. He also addressed family and financial responsibilities, including trust and respect within marriage.

Uganda Baati Chief Executive Officer George Arodi said the company wants to build a workplace where employees are supported beyond their formal duties. The report said he linked the firm’s manufacturing role in steel solutions with a broader responsibility to strengthen the people behind the business. Uganda Baati also highlighted its internal “Are You Kawa?” campaign, which encourages colleagues to check on one another’s wellbeing.

The session reflects a wider shift among employers toward workplace wellness and mental health support. The Independent cited World Health Organization estimates that depression and anxiety cost the global economy about US$1 trillion annually in lost productivity, and referenced Gallup research associating employee support and engagement with higher productivity. The event’s significance lies in placing men’s emotional health and workplace pressures into an open corporate discussion.
