Uganda Airlines Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plan as Gen. Muhoozi Backs National Carrier’s Growth

Uganda Airlines has outlined a strategic expansion plan in a briefing to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, according to Watchdog Uganda. The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe and was led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, alongside senior managers including the airline’s finance, human resources and commercial executives.

The airline said its priorities include improving operations, making better use of its current fleet and widening its route network. Plans discussed in the meeting involve expanding international links from Entebbe to destinations in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, while also strengthening connections to major African hubs. The carrier also wants to develop domestic routes to meet growing demand for air travel within Uganda.

A key part of the strategy is reducing costs by bringing more services in-house, including aircraft maintenance and ground handling, and by investing in training for Ugandan aviation professionals. According to the report, the airline sees this as a way to build technical capacity, lessen dependence on outside providers and support long-term commercial sustainability.

Watchdog Uganda said Gen. Kainerugaba welcomed the briefing and pledged support for efforts to strengthen the national carrier. The broader significance is that Uganda Airlines is being positioned not only as a national symbol but also as a business intended to support trade, tourism, regional integration and wider economic goals.
