Uganda Airlines plans domestic flights

Uganda Airlines has outlined plans to add domestic flights while also expanding its international network beyond Entebbe, according to a report by Nile Post. The airline’s leadership said it wants to respond to growing demand for air travel inside Uganda while also pursuing routes to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and other parts of Africa.

The plans were presented on Monday by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake and other senior managers during a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. Company officials also described efforts to make better use of the airline’s existing aircraft and strengthen its commercial operations.

Uganda Airlines said it is considering bringing aircraft maintenance and ground-handling services in-house, a move intended to reduce costs and build internal technical capacity. The carrier also plans to train more Ugandan aviation workers to support growth and reduce dependence on outside providers. In broader terms, the airline is going through structural changes aimed at improving governance and stabilising daily operations, although management said the expansion will need continued backing from government and other stakeholders.

Gen. Kainerugaba reportedly welcomed the strategy and said a strong national carrier matters for trade, regional integration and economic development. The meeting was also attended by senior airline officials, including the chief finance officer and acting heads of human resources and commercial operations.
