Uganda's Arthur Kaluma Earns NBA Contract with Los Angeles Lakers

Nile Post reports that Ugandan-American basketball player Arthur Kaluma has secured a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, giving the 24-year-old forward his first NBA deal. According to the report, the Lakers announced the move on Wednesday and waived two-way guard Peter Suder in a corresponding roster decision. Kaluma is expected to wear jersey number 47.

The signing follows Kaluma’s performances with the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, and in Summer League play. Nile Post reported that he appeared in 40 regular-season and NBA G League Tip-Off Tournament games during the 2025/26 season, averaging 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24.4 minutes per game, while shooting 37.8% from three-point range. The team finished first in the Western Conference at 26-10 and reached the Western Conference Finals.

Kaluma also strengthened his case during the California Classic and NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Across seven Summer League games, he averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists, while shooting 51.6% from the field and 44.8% from three. In Las Vegas, Nile Post said he led the Lakers in scoring, averaging 18.6 points over five games as the team went unbeaten in pool play before reaching the semifinals.

Before turning professional, Kaluma played college basketball at Creighton, Kansas State and Texas, making 134 appearances. A two-way contract allows him to spend time with both the NBA team and its G League affiliate, offering a pathway to NBA minutes while continuing his development.
