What the report says

MMA Fighting reported results from UFC Abu Dhabi, held Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, where Magomed Ankalaev defeated Bogdan Guskov in the light heavyweight main event. Ankalaev won by TKO with strikes at 2:41 of the fifth round, closing out a bout the outlet framed as an important matchup in the 205-pound division.

The result was notable because Ankalaev entered after a UFC title-fight loss to Alex Pereira, which MMA Fighting said was his first defeat since 2018. Guskov, who replaced Khalil Rountree Jr. on short notice, came in on a five-fight unbeaten run. MMA Fighting listed Ankalaev at No. 3 in its light heavyweight rankings and No. 17 pound-for-pound, while Guskov was ranked No. 12 at light heavyweight.

In the co-main event, Ramazan Temirov stopped Steve Erceg with strikes at 4:21 of the first round in a flyweight contest. Other main-card results included Magomed Zaynukov winning a unanimous decision over Damian Rzepecki, Rizvan Kuniev stopping Tyrell Fortune in the third round, and Abubakar Vagaev earning a unanimous decision against Saygid Izagakhmaev.

On the preliminary card, Valter Walker submitted Thomas Petersen with a calf slicer in the first round, while Muhammad Saidov and Sam Patterson each recorded TKO wins. MMA Fighting also reported that the scheduled main-card fight between Islam Dulatov and Wellington Turman was canceled because of an illness to Dulatov.
