UEDCL invests Shs 240m to boost power supply in Butebo

What the report says
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has spent more than Shs 240 million on two electricity projects in Butebo district, according to The Observer. The work is intended to improve power reliability for residents, businesses and schools, and to support local economic activity.
One project extended the distribution network to Petete Primary School, which had been wired but not yet linked to the national grid. The extension also connected Petete Church, nearby homes and Petete Town Council offices, alongside installation of a new transformer to strengthen supply in the area.
The second project involved a new 100kVA transformer for a mini-industrial park under construction in Kabarekere village, near St Paul High School. The article says the site had previously depended on a smaller 25kVA single-phase transformer about 600 metres away, which was not enough for the park’s projected demand. UEDCL managing director Joselynne Rwabwogo said the upgrade was meant to give sufficient capacity for industrial and agro-processing activities.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja commissioned the projects during a thanksgiving ceremony in Petete for Energy Minister Monica Musenero. The Observer said the investments are part of UEDCL’s broader efforts to improve service delivery, address outages and build links with local stakeholders. In general, such grid upgrades can be important for areas hoping to attract small industry and expand public services.
