UCC Backs Regional Cybersecurity Conference on Digital Trust

Uganda’s communications regulator, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), has said it will support a regional cybersecurity conference focused on information security, data protection and public confidence in digital services. The announcement was made by UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo after a meeting with leaders of the ISACA Kampala Chapter, including chapter president Maurice Taremwa, to discuss cooperation on secure digital transformation.

According to Nile Post, the support is for the 15th Annual East Africa Information Security Conference, scheduled for September 14 to 18, 2026, under the theme “Securing the Future through Digital Trust.” The event is expected to bring together industry experts, policymakers and technology leaders from across East Africa to examine emerging cyber threats and ways to protect the region’s increasingly connected digital environment.

Thembo said stronger cybersecurity systems and effective data protection are important for building trust in online services and supporting the digital economy. He also noted that ISACA helps connect professionals and decision-makers around cybersecurity and digital trust concerns. UCC’s backing is intended to encourage cooperation among regulators, technology practitioners and other stakeholders as reliance on digital services continues to grow across the region.

More broadly, the report reflects a wider regional focus on cyber resilience as governments, companies and citizens expand their use of online systems. The conference is expected to serve as a forum for practical ideas and policy discussions, though detailed outcomes have not yet been announced.
