UCAA Reaffirms Aviation Safety Commitment as Airport Security Programme Workshop Opens in Entebbe

What the report says
Watchdog Uganda reported that the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority opened an Airport Security Programme workshop at Protea Hotel in Entebbe on Monday, July 20, 2026. The training is being facilitated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency, bringing together aviation security specialists, airport managers, regulators and regional participants.
According to the report, UCAA used the opening to stress that aviation threats are becoming more complex and that prevention, detection and response systems must keep improving. The authority framed the workshop as part of a broader effort to protect passengers, crew, airport staff and the public while keeping Uganda’s aviation security practices aligned with international expectations.
The article said the programme covers key elements of airport security planning, including risk assessment, coordination among agencies, airport-specific procedures and compliance with international aviation security frameworks, including Annex 17 requirements. Participants are also expected to work through case studies and exercises involving issues such as cyber risks to airport systems, insider threats, drone-related disruptions and criminal activity affecting aviation operations.
CASSOA’s participation gives the workshop a regional focus, with the report noting the aim of harmonising East African aviation security practices and improving shared preparedness. The development matters because airport security depends on coordinated action across regulators, operators and security agencies, especially as airports face both physical and digital threats.
