UBOS commissions 80 data collectors for 9th Uganda National Household Survey

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has commissioned 80 field data collectors to begin work on the 9th Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) 2026/27, according to Nile Post. The nationwide exercise will run for 12 months and is intended to gather socio-economic information that can support policy-making and national development planning.

UBOS said the officers completed a 15-day training programme before being deployed into 16 field teams, each led by a supervisor. The teams were reportedly organized partly by language ability so they can communicate more effectively with respondents and improve the quality and accuracy of the information collected across different parts of Uganda.

During the commissioning, UBOS Executive Director Dr. Chris N. Mukiza urged the data collectors to work professionally, maintain integrity and follow ethical rules. He stressed confidentiality, telling them not to disclose sources or alter responses. He also warned that misconduct, indiscipline or poor performance could lead to removal from the survey and possibly affect future UBOS assignments.

Nile Post said the household survey is one of Uganda’s key statistical exercises, covering areas such as education, health, housing, employment, food security and consumption. Its findings are used to assess poverty and household welfare and to guide evidence-based planning. UBOS released results from the 8th survey in May 2025, and the new round is expected to provide updated data for government, private-sector and development-partner decision-making.
