The outlet attributed the claim to insider Tom Henderson and rated the rumor as “80% Probable.” According to the report, Henderson had first discussed Maverick in 2023, describing it as an Alaska-set survival-focused project in which players would contend with other players, wildlife and extreme weather.

The reported cancellation is framed as part of Ubisoft’s broader emphasis on improving release quality. Wccftech did not cite an official Ubisoft announcement confirming Maverick’s status, so the information should be treated as unverified unless the company comments. The cancellation would matter because extraction shooters have become a high-profile but challenging multiplayer genre, and Far Cry has traditionally been known more for open-world action than competitive survival systems.

Wccftech also reported that Ubisoft is not stepping back from the franchise. Henderson said another Far Cry spin-off, codenamed Kodlak, recently moved beyond the concept phase and into development. The report added that the next mainline Far Cry entry, codenamed Blackbird, is believed to be further along after earlier development difficulties.
