UAE accuses Iran of attacks on two ADNOC vessels in Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of attacking two vessels linked to the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping lane between the Gulf and the Arabian Sea. According to Al Jazeera’s report, ADNOC said the ships were attacked on Thursday evening and that the situation was later brought under control. The UAE foreign ministry said no injuries were reported.

The Emirati government condemned the incident as a hostile act and described it as “piracy,” warning that it posed a threat to regional stability and global energy supplies. Iran did not immediately respond to the accusation. Al Jazeera noted that this followed a separate reported attack on another ADNOC tanker days earlier, which the UAE had also blamed on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major chokepoint for international oil transport, so any disruption there can have wider economic implications. Al Jazeera also reported that Iran has previously threatened vessels it sees as aligned with its adversaries and that tensions over access to the waterway have remained high amid wider regional disputes.
