U.S.-Iran tensions escalate with renewed strikes

The Independent Uganda, carrying a Xinhua report from Tehran, said U.S.-Iran tensions intensified after U.S. Central Command announced another overnight round of strikes on Iran and Tehran responded by targeting sites linked to U.S. forces in the Gulf. The report, published July 19, 2026, said Iranian media reported explosions in Bushehr province, parts of Hormozgan province including Sirik and Qeshm, and several blasts in Yazd province.

According to the article, CENTCOM said U.S. forces had completed a seventh consecutive night of attacks, striking Iranian surveillance, logistics, underground weapons storage and maritime-related capabilities.
