Two Next Media staff killed in Entebbe road crash, another in ICU

The Observer reported that two employees of Next Media Services were killed in a road crash along Entebbe Road in the early hours of Friday, while a third colleague was left in critical condition. The media company identified the dead as Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, and said Brian Ssemanda, also known as Makona, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Kisubi Hospital.

According to preliminary findings cited by traffic police, the crash happened around 2:00 a.m. near the Stabex area in Namulanda, on the road between Entebbe and Kampala. Police said a Toyota Hilux reportedly lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming Toyota Allex head-on. Two people died at the scene, while two others, including the Hilux driver, were taken to hospital. The bodies of the deceased were sent to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police said the exact cause of the crash was still under investigation. Next Media said it remained in contact with Kisubi Hospital and asked for privacy for the affected families and for Ssemanda as he receives specialised care.

The incident adds to ongoing concern about road safety in Uganda. As background, the country has long recorded a high number of traffic crashes, with police often citing speeding, dangerous overtaking and vehicle defects among the main contributors.
