Two Latvian men arrested inside UK military base after breach

What the report says
Counterterrorism police in the United Kingdom have arrested two Latvian men after a security breach at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire, a military site in southeast England that hosts U.S. and NATO intelligence operations. Al Jazeera, citing police and wire reports, said the men, aged 36 and 32 and both living in the UK, were detained on Thursday inside the base after officers found a small gap in the perimeter fence and an abandoned vehicle nearby.
Police said the pair were being held on suspicion of trespass and entering a prohibited place for a purpose considered harmful to the UK. They remain in custody at a Cambridgeshire police station while investigators examine why they were on the site. The case is being led by counterterrorism police because of the sensitivity of the location.
Authorities said there is, so far, no indication that the incident is linked to a separate security scare at RAF Fairford in western England last month, where seven men were arrested after a different breach-related episode. That earlier case has heightened concern around military sites in the UK. RAF Molesworth is a former World War II airfield now used as a non-flying base by the U.S. Air Force and as an intelligence hub, underscoring why even a limited breach is treated as a significant security matter.
