Two killed, two injured in Luwero multiple-truck crash

What the report says
Two unidentified men were killed and two others injured in a three-truck crash at Naluvule on the Kampala-Gulu highway in Luwero district, according to The Observer. The collision happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, and involved a white Fuso, a red Sino truck loaded with sand, and a red Mercedes Actros that had reportedly broken down along the roadside.
Police said the Fuso, traveling from Kampala toward Luwero, struck the stationary Mercedes Actros, killing one of its occupants. Savannah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima said the bright headlights of the approaching Sino truck may also have contributed to the crash. The Sino driver reportedly swerved to avoid a head-on impact, after which the truck overturned.
Two male adults who were said to be sitting on top of the sand on the Sino truck died at the scene, while two other passengers were injured and taken to a nearby clinic. Police visited the site, documented the scene and began investigations. The bodies were taken to Luwero General Hospital mortuary for postmortem, while the Fuso was moved to Luwero Police Station.
The report highlights continuing road safety concerns on major highways in Uganda, especially where broken-down vehicles, heavy trucks and night driving can combine to create high-risk conditions. Police said inquiries were still ongoing.
