Two Die In Separate Hit-And-Run Crashes In Bugiri And Namutumba

What the report says
Police in Busoga East are investigating two separate hit-and-run crashes in Bugiri and Namutumba districts that killed a motorcyclist and a pedestrian. The cases, reported by Nile Post, involved drivers who fled after the collisions and have not yet been identified.
In Bugiri District, the fatal crash happened at Kikabala Village along the Bugiri-Nankoma Road. Police said an Isuzu Elf heading from Bugiri toward Nankoma went into the opposite lane while trying to avoid a pothole and struck a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle head-on. The rider, Daudi Nkwanga, 27, died at the scene. His motorcycle was taken to Bugiri Central Police Station, and his body was taken to Bugiri Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
The second crash occurred at Nawaikona Village in Namutumba District along the Iganga-Mbale Highway. Police said an unknown vehicle, suspected to be either a Toyota Noah or a double-cabin pickup, hit pedestrian Christopher Basuuta, 70, as he attempted to cross the road. He also died at the scene. Investigators documented the site and took the body to his home pending postmortem.
Busoga East police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha said officers are working to trace the vehicles and drivers and are asking anyone with information or footage of damaged vehicles to come forward. The incidents add to ongoing concerns about road safety and hit-and-run cases on Uganda’s highways.
