Liverpool.com reported that Jurgen Klopp has been unveiled as Germany’s new national team head coach, marking his return to management after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. The announcement was said to have taken place Friday morning at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt, following Germany’s decision earlier in July to part with Julian Nagelsmann after a World Cup exit on penalties against Paraguay in the Round of 32.

According to the report, Klopp’s appointment required negotiations because he was still contracted to Red Bull, where he had been serving as Global Head of Soccer since the start of 2025. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said it quickly became clear Klopp could not hold both roles at once. Liverpool.com said the German FA agreed to two concessions: a €1 million donation to Red Bull’s Wings for Life foundation and a commitment for Germany to play three international fixtures at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena by 2030.

The report said former Liverpool staff members Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz will join Klopp’s Germany backroom team. Neuendorf described Klopp as the DFB’s preferred candidate from the outset and said talks reinforced the association’s view that he was the right appointment at this point.

Klopp is expected to take charge for the first time in September, when Germany face the Netherlands in a Nations League match. The move is significant because Klopp had long been linked with the national team job, and his departure from Red Bull required an agreement involving both sporting and commercial considerations.
