What the report says

Police in Kampala say two children died and three others were injured after a stabbing attack at a home in Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, 2026. The Independent Uganda reported that the suspected attacker was identified by Kampala Metropolitan Police as Dorothy Namayo, a 43-year-old Kenyan national and the mother of the children.

According to the police account cited by the outlet, a housemaid heard alarm and cries for help around 4:00 a.m. and found several children with severe stab wounds in the main house. A 14-year-old girl was found dead at the scene, while a seven-year-old girl later died at Nsambya Hospital. Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived and were taken for treatment.

The report said Namayo was also injured and is receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard. Police also said a Toyota Hiace parked at the home was set on fire and destroyed, and officers recovered a jerrycan they suspect contained petrol. Fire and rescue teams responded to the blaze, while homicide detectives and scene-of-crime officers documented the area.

Kampala police have registered murder, attempted murder and arson cases as investigations continue. The incident has drawn attention because it involved multiple child victims, alleged domestic violence and a suspected arson attack at the same property.
