Two Arrested Over Alleged Kidnapping of 10-Year-Old Boy in Nansana

What the report says
Police in Nansana, Uganda, have arrested two young men in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy and a ransom demand directed at his family. The suspects were identified by police as Bernard Matovu and Christopher Ssemata, according to Nile Post, which reported that the inquiry is still underway.
The case came to light after the boy’s father, Rogers Segawa, said he received a phone call demanding Shs20 million but did not immediately understand that his son had allegedly been taken. He later became concerned after his wife asked where the child was, prompting the family to report the matter at Nansana Police Station. Segawa also told the publisher that Matovu had worked for the family for about three years in domestic roles.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala said officers acted on information from the family and traced the suspects. Police said the men were taken to places linked to the alleged abduction as investigators work to reconstruct what happened and collect evidence. The suspects are expected to be brought to court after the investigation is completed.
Beyond the immediate arrest, the case highlights ongoing public concern in Uganda about child safety and vetting of household workers. Police urged families to carry out background checks before giving employees access to homes and children.
