Two Arrested in Nansana Over Kidnapping of 10-Year-Old Boy

What the report says
Police in Nansana, on the outskirts of Kampala, have arrested two young men in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy and a ransom demand of Shs20 million. Nile Post identified the suspects as Bernard Matovu and Christopher Ssemata, and said the case remains under investigation.
According to the report, the child’s father, Rogers Segawa, received a call from someone demanding the money before realizing his son had been taken. He later alerted police after speaking with his wife about the child’s whereabouts. Segawa also said Matovu had worked for the family for about three years doing domestic chores, including cutting grass, washing cars and cleaning dogs.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala said officers acted on information from the family, traced the suspects and arrested them. Police reportedly took the suspects to locations linked to the alleged planning and execution of the kidnapping as investigators gather evidence.
The case highlights continuing concerns about child safety and the risks of hiring people without proper background checks. Police urged households to verify the people they employ, especially those who may have access to children and homes, and said the suspects will be brought to court after the inquiry is complete.
