Two accused of drug trafficking after UK-Nigeria investigation

What the report says
Two people have been charged in the UK after a Metropolitan Police investigation linked to suspected international drug trafficking between Britain and Nigeria. The BBC reports that Oladipupo Atandare, 50, of Dagenham, and Latifat Yusuf, 44, of Hornchurch, were arrested after police seized more than 180kg of cocaine in the UK on 5 August.
The pair appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 8 August and were remanded in custody. They are due to return to court at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 7 September. The Metropolitan Police said the arrests relate to the UK seizure alone, although inquiries are still continuing alongside developments in Nigeria.
According to the BBC, Nigerian authorities also announced this week that they had found 184.5kg of cocaine, said to be worth about £20m, at a courier facility in Lagos. That discovery has triggered arrests in Nigeria, including of a logistics company employee and a social media influencer.
The case matters because it points to a wider cross-border enforcement effort against suspected trafficking routes connecting the UK and Nigeria. BBC Africa’s reporting also noted that one Nigerian suspect, Afolabi Kazeem Michael, known online as KC Luxury, has been accused by Nigerian law enforcement of playing a leading role in an alleged drug cartel, though he has not publicly responded to those claims.
