Twelve Injured in Road Crash at Ttamu in Mityana

Twelve people were injured in a head-on crash at Ttamu Trading Centre along the Kampala-Mityana-Mubende road, according to Nile Post. The collision involved a Toyota Hilux pickup and a Toyota Hiace taxi and happened on Saturday night at about 9:45pm. Police said the pickup was travelling from Kampala toward Mityana and Mubende when the driver reportedly lost control after being distracted by headlights from an oncoming vehicle.

The pickup driver was identified by police as Kateba Godfrey, 48, the Town Clerk of Mityana Municipality and a resident of Mityana District. The taxi driver was named as Ssekande Richard, 34, of Kyegegwa District, and the taxi was carrying 10 passengers. Police said both drivers and the passengers were injured in the crash. The victims were taken to Mityana General Hospital and nearby clinics for treatment.

Wamala Region police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said traffic investigators visited and documented the scene, and the wreckage was moved to the Mityana Traffic Police Yard as inquiries continue. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about night driving safety on major highways, especially where glare, distraction and loss of control can quickly lead to serious collisions.
