Tunisia appoint Chaabani as coach until 2030

CNA, citing Reuters, reported that Tunisia’s football federation has named Moin Chaabani as head coach of the men’s national team on a contract running until 2030. The Tunisian Football Federation said its executive committee had approved a new senior-team coaching staff led by Chaabani, with the announcement made in Tunis on July 28.

Chaabani replaces French coach Herve Renard, who had been brought in for Tunisia’s last two group-stage fixtures at the 2026 World Cup after Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following a 5-1 loss to Sweden in the opening match. Renard’s brief spell did not change the team’s fortunes: Tunisia then lost 4-0 to Japan and 3-1 to the Netherlands. CNA reported that it was the first time Tunisia had been beaten in every match at a World Cup.

The 45-year-old Chaabani arrives after leaving Moroccan side Renaissance de Berkane earlier in July. He had led the club to its first domestic league title in the 2024-25 season and to the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup. He is also known for his success with Esperance of Tunisia, where he won two CAF Champions League titles. This will be his first role in charge of a national team.

The appointment is significant for a Tunisia side that has gone through seven coaches since 2024. The team is due to begin 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying in September, with Uganda, Libya and Botswana listed as its Group H opponents.
