Trump wants a new Camp David retreat at his posh Florida golf club

What the report says
BBC World News reports that US President Donald Trump is seeking to create a presidential retreat at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, modeled loosely on Camp David. Trump said the location is close to the airport and could serve as a weekend retreat for presidents and visiting foreign leaders, while the club would cover construction costs and offer free use to future presidents, according to a letter cited by local media.
The proposal would place a presidential retreat at a private golf property that Trump says is secure and well suited for protection. He told reporters the area has fewer surrounding buildings and homes, which he argued would make it safer. The BBC noted that Trump said the idea was first raised by Secret Service officials. The publication also reported that the Secret Service has been contacted for comment.
The plan stands in contrast to Camp David, the long-established presidential retreat in Maryland, which is a secluded, heavily secured military facility with restricted access. Camp David has been used by presidents for meetings, summits and private stays since Franklin Roosevelt’s era. If Trump’s proposal advances, it would add to a series of recent changes he has pushed at the White House and elsewhere in Washington, reflecting his broader effort to reshape presidential spaces.
