Trump says oil, gas and mineral exploration to begin in Greenland

What the report says
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that large-scale exploration for oil, gas and minerals will begin in Greenland, the self-governing Danish territory in the Arctic. In a post on Truth Social, he described Greenland as having major reserves and suggested that extraction would be easier than in many other places. He did not say what role, if any, the United States would play in the effort.
Trump also highlighted the security value of a deal signed last month with Denmark and Greenland. According to Al Jazeera’s report, that agreement expands the US military presence on the island, opens the door to two new bases, and supports Trump’s planned “Golden Dome” missile defence system while reaffirming Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination. The pact was presented as a way to ease tensions after a lengthy dispute over Trump’s refusal to rule out using force to take Greenland.
In his latest remarks, Trump argued that Greenland offers a strategic advantage because any aerial attack on the US would have to pass over the island. He said American defenses there could detect and stop threats, and he praised the arrangement as highly beneficial for both the US and Europe. Leaders in Greenland and Denmark had not immediately responded, according to the report.
