What the report says

A new Reuters-Ipsos poll published by Al Jazeera says US President Donald Trump’s approval rating remains at a record low as the November midterm elections near. The six-day survey, completed Monday, found that 32 percent of US voters approve of his performance, with support among Hispanic voters falling further to 24 percent, the lowest level recorded in either of his two terms.

The polling suggests Trump has lost much of the ground he gained with Latino voters in the 2024 election. According to the report, he had narrowed the gap with Kamala Harris in that race, but this month’s survey shows Hispanic voters now leaning heavily toward Democrats, with about 52 percent saying they plan to vote for Democrats in the midterms compared with 26 percent for Republicans.

Al Jazeera said the finding matters because the midterms are widely seen as a referendum on Trump’s second term and will determine control of the US House and Senate. A weaker showing for Republicans could limit Trump’s agenda in the rest of his presidency. The article also notes that Trump has faced criticism from some Republicans and that concerns over immigration enforcement and the cost of living may be contributing to his softer support among Hispanic voters.
