Trump faces private citizens lawsuit over limiting White House media access

What the report says
A group of private citizens has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over limits on White House media access, according to Al Jazeera. The case, filed Monday in federal court in New York, is unusual because it was brought by people who consume and rely on news coverage rather than by the news organizations that were restricted.
The plaintiffs include a human rights advocate, a media watchdog, a university history professor, a high school teacher, a legal journalist and a student journalist. They say they depend on independent reporting from the White House press corps for their scholarship, teaching, journalism and advocacy, and that the restrictions are reducing access to information they need to understand the government.
The report says the lawsuit comes amid broader disputes over Trump’s treatment of media outlets he dislikes. Last month, his administration blocked reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House news conferences, and a federal judge later found that move unconstitutional and ordered access restored, though the administration is still challenging that ruling.
Trump has also signaled he may move the press out of the briefing room, while dismissing reports that he plans to turn that space into something else. The case adds to ongoing legal and political fights over press freedom and the public’s access to independent reporting on the White House.
