Two of Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have arrived in Moscow for talks with Russian officials before travelling to Kyiv on Sunday, according to Russian media reports cited by the BBC. The visit comes as the Trump administration seeks to push forward efforts to end the war in Ukraine, although previous US- and allied-led attempts to secure a peace deal have not produced a breakthrough.

Trump said on Friday that the pair were bringing a proposal aimed at ending the conflict. The BBC reported that their expected itinerary includes separate discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, though neither Washington nor the Kremlin has publicly confirmed the travel. Flight-tracking data cited by the BBC showed a US government aircraft landing in Moscow after arriving from Helsinki.

The planned talks follow a period of intensified fighting and aerial attacks. Zelensky said Russia launched strikes on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil ahead of the envoys’ expected visit, and also reported a separate attack in the Dnipro region that killed four people. Ukraine’s airspace has been closed since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The BBC said major disagreements remain over territory and security guarantees, underlining why the latest diplomacy is being watched closely.
