Trump announces deal with Putin to release Russian diesel

What the report says
US President Donald Trump said he has struck an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to let Russian diesel enter global markets immediately. According to the BBC, Trump said Putin would release 300,000 tonnes at once, followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and another 1 million tonnes after that. The announcement came as the White House continued to focus on lowering fuel costs, a political concern for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
The BBC said diesel prices in the US have roughly doubled since the war with Iran began in February. The average US diesel price was reported at $6.28 a gallon, below the record $6.53 reached at the end of September. Trump said on Truth Social that diesel prices for Americans and the world would come down quickly, while Treasury later issued a temporary license to allow Russian diesel into the market.
Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy for Putin, welcomed the move and said Russia-US cooperation on diesel and energy would benefit the world. The report also noted this is part of a broader push by Trump to ease fuel prices, including pressure on G7 nations to release stockpiles and consideration of other domestic fuel-policy changes. More broadly, the deal reflects how energy supplies remain tied to inflation, consumer costs and electoral politics.
