What the report says

The US Department of Homeland Security has asked an Icelandic web hosting company to remove a website that published information about tens of thousands of its employees, according to Al Jazeera. The request, sent through cybersecurity firm ZeroFox and posted publicly by FlokiNET on Thursday, said the data was stolen and that leaving it online could expose more than 40,000 identifiable people to harassment or physical harm.

FlokiNET said the domain in question, icepi.cx, contained employee details drawn from across DHS agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. The company said it did not comply with the takedown demand, arguing that the public has a legitimate interest in knowing who is carrying out immigration enforcement and under what authority. It also said the site was later suspended by the domain registrar, though the information had already moved to another domain.

Al Jazeera reported that the database was first posted by Distributed Denial of Secrets, a group that publishes leaked material, and that a hacker collective calling itself the Department of Peace claimed responsibility for obtaining it. The episode comes amid the Trump administration’s broader effort to limit online tools and sites that identify ICE personnel, a policy push that has drawn criticism from free-speech advocates and immigration rights supporters. The reporting also notes ongoing debate over whether greater transparency or officer anonymity better serves public safety during immigration operations.
