What the report says

Gateshead have missed September wage payments to players and staff, BBC Sport Football reported, as the National League club continues to face serious off-field uncertainty. The Tyneside side are bottom of the division and have lost their last five matches, conceding 16 goals and scoring once in that run.

The report said the financial issue comes in the same week that Mark Nellist resigned from the board and withdrew his funding support. Nellist said he did not believe the club was moving in the direction he had wanted. In response, interim chairman Graham Wood said the club was now focused on finding new investment.

Wood said talks over fresh backing had made what he described as significant progress over the previous 24 hours, and that the club hoped to make an announcement soon. He also said Nellist had agreed to make his shares available for a nominal sum, which could help facilitate a change in ownership structure.

The developments matter because Gateshead, who are in their fifth season in the National League since promotion, are trying to stabilize both financially and on the pitch. Their next fixture is a home match against Worthing on Saturday, according to the BBC report.
