Uganda’s Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, has urged senior officers of the Uganda Wildlife Authority to put lessons from a leadership course at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi into practical improvements in service delivery and wildlife conservation. She made the remarks at a pass-out ceremony for UWA’s Intake 03/2026 at NALI.

According to Watchdog Uganda, the minister praised NALI for building discipline, teamwork and ideological orientation among the officers, and said such training should continue rather than be treated as a one-time exercise. She also noted that enforcement work in wildlife protection can draw criticism from people involved in illegal activities, but said the ministry supports officers carrying out lawful duties.

Nsambu linked stronger conservation to Uganda’s wider tourism economy, saying visitors should receive a high-quality experience in national parks and other attractions. NALI director Col. Okei Rukogota said the institute’s role is to develop leaders who can support socio-economic transformation, while UWA executive director Dr. James Musinguzi said the training had strengthened leadership and decision-making skills relevant to conservation.

Musinguzi also said the agency plans to spread the training’s lessons more widely through lower-level staff and community-facing officers. The event in Kyankwanzi was attended by several government and security officials, including the Senior Presidential Advisor on Tourism, Lilly Ajarova.
