What the report says

Trabzonspor have reversed their earlier stance and accepted the resignation of head coach Fatih Tekke, ending his spell in charge after what the club described as an emotional decision. BBC Sport reports that Tekke first offered to step down following Trabzonspor’s 5-0 aggregate defeat by Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off round, but the Turkish club initially rejected the request before later reaching what it called a mutual understanding.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Trabzonspor said the decision was made in the club’s long-term interests. The statement credited Tekke with adding value during his tenure, including helping player development and contributing to sporting and financial progress. It also pointed to the Turkish Cup win during his time at the club as a notable success.

Tekke had led Trabzonspor to third place in the league last season. BBC Sport says he was appointed in March 2025 and had been in charge for about 18 months. The move comes as Trabzonspor continue their European campaign in the Europa Conference League. More broadly, coaching changes after poor European results are common in Turkish football, but the club’s public emphasis on mutual agreement suggests it wanted to frame the departure as orderly rather than abrupt.
