Tottenham reject Danso loan move to Sunderland

What the report says
Tottenham Hotspur have turned down a season-long loan approach from Sunderland for defender Kevin Danso, according to BBC Sport Football. The Austria international, who has been capped 36 times by his country, is 27 and has made 37 appearances for Spurs.
Danso featured for Tottenham for the first time this season in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Charlton, entering as a substitute in the second half. Even so, the report says his opportunities in the first team are expected to be limited as Spurs have added central defensive options and Micky van de Ven has signed a new contract and been named captain.
The BBC said it is not yet clear whether Sunderland will maintain their interest after the rejected bid. Danso initially joined Tottenham on loan from Lens in January 2025 before the move became permanent later that year, with Spurs paying the French club £20.9m.
The situation matters because it suggests Tottenham are content to keep defensive cover in place, even as the player may face reduced playing time. As general background, loan and permanent moves often reflect a club’s depth planning as much as immediate form, but the BBC report did not indicate any final transfer outcome beyond the rejected offer.
