Tooro PM Appeals for Restraint as Kingdom Prepares For King Oyo Funeral

Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire has asked the media, cultural leaders and the public to show restraint and protect the royal family’s privacy as preparations continue for the funeral of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. In comments reported by Nile Post, he said the kingdom is mourning deeply and should be allowed to grieve without speculation or intrusive coverage.

Rwomiire, speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, criticized the circulation of images showing family members in moments of distress and said such material risks turning private grief into public spectacle. He urged commentators and social media users to avoid misinformation and competing narratives, warning that careless statements could inflame divisions during the mourning period.

He also addressed questions about the late king’s time abroad, saying earlier updates about his health and studies were shared in line with the monarch’s wishes and should not become a source of controversy before burial. According to the report, the kingdom plans to receive the king’s remains and give him a dignified farewell, with further clarification on any sensitive issues to come later, after burial.

The article says King Oyo died on August 27, 2026, after 31 years on the throne. His remains are expected in Uganda on Friday, with burial planned for the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12.
