Ugandan musician Big Eye has weighed in on the debate over who should succeed the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV as the next Omukama of Tooro, saying the kingdom should choose an adult monarch rather than return to a child ruler. In remarks reported by Sqoop Uganda, he said the final decision belongs to those officially tasked with selecting the next king, but added that he personally favors someone ready to assume leadership immediately.

Big Eye argued that appointing another young monarch could repeat the long transition period that followed King Oyo’s accession at age three in 1995, when the ruler had to grow into the full duties of the throne. He said Tooro would be better served by a king who can make independent decisions and provide leadership without delay. The comments come as the Babiito clan succession process is taking shape.

He also stressed that his view is a personal opinion and not an attempt to direct the kingdom’s decision. In a broader sense, the report reflects public interest in how traditional institutions balance lineage, age and readiness for leadership during succession. That issue is especially relevant in kingdoms such as Tooro, where cultural authority and governance roles can intersect.
