Tooro Kingdom Says King Oyo Is in Critical Condition

Tooro Kingdom has confirmed that King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is in critical condition, after days of public concern sparked by rumours on social media that the 34-year-old monarch had died. In a statement issued on Thursday, the kingdom’s prime minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, said the King’s condition was serious but did not identify the illness or say where he is being treated.

The message urged people in Tooro, along with supporters in Uganda and abroad, to pray for the monarch and avoid circulating speculation or unverified claims. Kingdom officials also asked for calm and respect for the royal family as anxiety grew around the reports. The statement said further updates would be shared through official channels when appropriate.

The latest disclosure contrasts with an earlier Tooro Kingdom communication on August 3, which had described the health rumours as false and said the King was abroad for official duties and further study. King Oyo became King in 1995, when he was three years old, following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Rwamuhokya Olimi III. The developing situation is significant because King Oyo is one of Uganda’s best-known traditional leaders, and the kingdom’s confirmation has intensified attention on his health and succession-related concerns.
