Tooro Kingdom confirms King Oyo is in critical condition

Tooro Kingdom has said that its monarch, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, is in critical condition, responding to online speculation that he had died while receiving treatment in the United States. In a communication shared by Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, the palace asked the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified claims about the king’s health.

According to the statement published by Sqoop Uganda, the Kingdom did not give details about the illness or explain the nature of the treatment. Instead, it said official updates would be released only through recognised Kingdom channels when appropriate. Rwomiire also asked Abatooro, supporters of the Kingdom and the wider public to keep the monarch and his family in their thoughts and prayers during what he described as a difficult period.

The report places the announcement amid rumours circulating on social media about the 30-year-old king’s condition. King Oyo became Tooro’s ruler in 1995 as a child after the death of his father, King Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He is among Uganda’s youngest traditional monarchs, and the current situation is significant because of his role as head of the Tooro Kingdom and the public attention surrounding his health.
