Tooro Kingdom has released formal guidelines for the funeral and succession arrangements following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. According to the Nile Post report, the process has been placed under the Office of the Musuuga, led by Charles Kamurasi, alongside a 21-member committee drawn from the Babiito clan. The kingdom says these bodies will oversee burial rites, succession discussions and related cultural ceremonies.

The statement comes as questions continue within some royal and clan circles about the identity of the late king’s young heir. The kingdom has not publicly named the child, saying the successor will be announced later in line with Tooro customs. It also said the prince’s existence secures continuity of the crown. In addition, a separate three-member communications team has been named to handle official messaging on the king’s death, funeral and succession, while former Defence Minister Tom Butime has been designated as the contact for coordination with the Ugandan government.

The kingdom outlined where the king’s body will be taken after arrival at the airport: directly to Karuziika Palace in Kabarole, which it described as the only official royal palace. It said the body will remain there throughout the nine-day mourning period and will not be moved between locations. The succession committee is tasked with identifying the heir, informing stakeholders and preparing the ceremonies linked to the transition.

Background reported by Nile Post says Oyo died aged 34 after treatment abroad, nearly three decades after becoming king as a child in 1995. His death has made funeral planning and the future of the monarchy a central issue for Tooro.
