“Together Towards Greatness”: Centenary Bank wins the 2026 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala

Centenary Bank was named the overall winner of the 2026 Annual Bankers’ Sports Gala, a sector-wide event organised by the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services and the Uganda Bankers Association. The competition brought together 31 banks and other financial institutions in Kampala, with activities including indoor games, daily fitness walks, golf and outdoor sports.

According to Watchdog Uganda, the gala was launched on 13 August 2026 under the theme “Together Towards Greatness” and concluded at the Kyambogo University playgrounds. Equity Bank finished as first runner-up, while Bank of Uganda came third. The event was presented as both a competition and a networking platform for staff across the financial services industry.

Speakers at the closing ceremony used the occasion to highlight wider goals beyond sport. UIBFS Chief Executive Officer Goretti Masadde said the gala helped colleagues build relationships and support wellbeing, while UIBFS board chair Godfrey Ssebaana said it showed the value of collaboration across the sector. Bank of Uganda Governor Michael Atingi-Ego also praised the annual event and encouraged bankers to use such gatherings to refresh and strengthen team spirit.

The report said some winners and standout performers will later be recognised at the Annual Bankers’ Awards scheduled for 20 November 2026. More broadly, the gala reflects how Uganda’s banking sector uses shared recreational activities to promote unity, professional networking and employee wellbeing.
