Tim Cook & John Ternus Talk CEO Transition, Apple TV’s Legacy & Future At ‘Ted Lasso’ S4 Premiere - Deadline

What the report says
Deadline reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook and incoming CEO John Ternus attended the Season 4 premiere of “Ted Lasso” at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on July 27, using the red-carpet event to discuss Apple’s leadership change and the company’s streaming business. Cook, who is due to step down as CEO on September 1 and become executive chairman, described his 15-year tenure as a source of deep gratitude, while Ternus called the new role an extraordinary opportunity after 25 years at Apple.
The premiere carried symbolic weight for Apple TV: it was Cook’s final Apple TV launch event as CEO and Ternus’ first since the succession plan was announced. Cook noted that Apple TV, launched under his leadership in 2019, has gained momentum and highlighted the service’s 89 Emmy nominations this year. Deadline also reported that Apple’s stock had closed at a record high ahead of Cook’s final earnings call as chief executive.
“Ted Lasso,” one of Apple TV’s defining hits, returned after its original three-season arc, with Cook saying he had hoped the Jason Sudeikis-led series would come back. Ternus also praised the show’s optimistic tone. Both executives named other Apple TV programs they are watching, including “Silo,” “Pluribus,” “Widow’s Bay” and “Severance.”
On future strategy, Ternus did not outline major changes for Apple TV, saying the service has strong momentum and should continue attracting storytellers and creative talent. The Deadline interview framed the event as both a celebration of a flagship series and a public handoff between Apple’s outgoing and incoming leaders.
