Yahoo Sports reported that Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal recorded the 1,000th strikeout of his major league career during Wednesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles on July 29, 2026. Skubal entered the outing with 999 career strikeouts and reached the milestone in the first inning, retiring leadoff hitter Taylor Ward with a changeup on a full count. The achievement makes him the 53rd active pitcher to reach at least 1,000 career strikeouts, according to the report.

Skubal worked 6 2/3 innings, striking out six while allowing three earned runs on four hits with one walk. Detroit ultimately lost 10-9 in 12 innings, so Skubal did not receive a decision.
