What the report says

Robbers allegedly wearing army-style uniforms and Uganda Revenue Authority-like jackets intercepted a Kombucha Products Ltd sales team along the Iganga-Kaliro road and stole Shs 5.51 million, along with phones and identification documents. The Observer reported that the incident took place on October 1, 2026, around 5 pm near Kigulu trading centre in Nakalama sub-county, Iganga district.

According to the account given by salesman Kenneth Twinamastiko, he and driver Damulira Waiswa were returning to Iganga after making deliveries in Bulumba and Buyuge sub-counties in Kaliro district. The report says the men had made sales worth Shs 5.51 million during the day. Twinamastiko said the suspects first posed as officers checking documents before armed men surrounded the vehicle, forced the pair into another car and drove them away.

He said the group later stopped in a secluded area, demanded the money from the day’s sales and took a Samsung phone, an Itel phone, an ATM card and his national ID before abandoning the victims. The two later reported the matter at Iganga central police station as aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the case and said investigations were under way. The report adds that police have increased patrols in the wider area and that officers view the attack as part of a broader pattern of highway robberies involving suspects said to disguise themselves in military-like uniforms. For traders and suppliers, the case underscores ongoing security risks on major routes where cash is still carried after deliveries.
