US President Donald Trump hosted leading technology executives at the White House on Tuesday for a summit focused on artificial intelligence, according to BBC World News. The meeting brought together figures from OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia, Meta and Google, and came amid wider industry debate over how quickly AI should develop and how much oversight it needs.

BBC reported that Trump said the companies signed a “morally binding” agreement covering AI safety. The document places responsibility on firms to guard against problems in their own systems, use safeguards to keep models working as intended, and cooperate with independent auditors. Trump also said he would create a board to oversee AI safety, though he did not say who would serve on it.

The summit also highlighted Trump’s support for expanding data centres, the computing infrastructure needed for AI. BBC noted that these facilities have faced local opposition in parts of the US over energy use and community impact. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang described data centres as “super intelligence factories,” framing them as part of US industrial growth.

In a separate move the same day, Trump signed an executive order directing federal departments to use the terms “SI” and “Super Intelligence” instead of “AI” in official internal and public materials. BBC said the change reflects Trump’s view that “artificial” makes the technology sound less serious, although experts cited by the broadcaster were skeptical that the new term will catch on widely.
