Three Killed, Six Injured in Kakira Taxi-Trailer Crash

Three people were killed and six others injured in a road crash on the Jinja–Iganga highway in Kakira, according to Nile Post. The incident involved a Toyota Hiace taxi and a trailer and happened on Wednesday night when the taxi reportedly struck the back of the moving trailer while both vehicles were travelling in the same direction from the Iganga side.

Police in Kiira Region said the wreckage was taken to Kakira Police Station as investigators continued to examine what caused the crash. The injured were taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital mortuary. Police have not yet released the victims’ identities as they work to inform relatives.

Kiira Region police spokesperson James Mubi said the preliminary view is that reckless driving may have contributed to the collision. He also said both drivers allegedly left the scene and that police had begun a manhunt for them. The report adds that police have increased patrols on the highway and are urging motorists to be careful, particularly at night, and to follow traffic rules.

Road safety remains a major concern on busy inter-city routes in Uganda, where night travel and high-speed traffic can raise the risk of serious crashes.
